DESCRIPTION:

A self-powered atmospheric particulate filtration system that eliminates conventional HEPA and mechanical filters entirely. The system uses engineered phononic crystal arrays to create acoustic bandgap zones that physically separate airborne particulates — PM2.5, PM10, bioaerosols, allergens, and ultrafine particles — from air streams using sound wave physics, not physical filter media.

Power is supplied by integrated piezoelectric transducers (PZT) that harvest ambient mechanical vibration from the operating environment — HVAC ductwork vibration, building structural vibration, or equipment vibration. The system requires zero external power in most installation environments.

KEY ADVANTAGES OVER EXISTING TECHNOLOGY:

- No filter replacement. Ever. The system has no consumable components.
- No moving parts. Zero mechanical failure modes.
- Self-powered via piezoelectric energy harvesting from ambient vibration.
- Retrofit-compatible with existing HVAC ductwork and air handling infrastructure.
- Solid-state architecture enables semiconductor-style manufacturing cost reduction at scale.
- Applicable to commercial HVAC, hospital/medical-grade air, semiconductor cleanroom, residential, and industrial environments.

UNDERLYING SCIENCE:

Phononic crystals are periodic elastic structures that create acoustic bandgaps — frequency ranges where sound (phonon) propagation is forbidden. This is the acoustic equivalent of photonic crystals used in fiber optics. The physics is well-established with 40+ peer-reviewed publications supporting the core mechanisms. The inventive step is the novel application of phononic bandgap engineering to airborne particulate separation combined with piezoelectric self-powering — a combination not previously disclosed in the prior art.

MARKET OPPORTUNITY:

- Global air filtration market: $16+ billion (2025), growing 6-8% annually
- HEPA filter replacement market alone exceeds $4 billion annually
- Semiconductor cleanroom air management: $2+ billion
- Medical/hospital air purification: $1.5+ billion
- Indoor air quality (residential/commercial): fastest-growing segment driven by post-COVID awareness

TARGET LICENSEES:

HVAC manufacturers (Carrier, Trane, Daikin, Johnson Controls), air purification companies (Honeywell, IQAir, Molekule), semiconductor equipment manufacturers (Applied Materials, Lam Research), medical facility equipment suppliers, cleanroom integrators.

LICENSING TERMS:

Non-exclusive license available for air filtration and air purification field of use only. Licensor retains all rights for thermal management, computing, medical device, and all other fields of use. Licensee gains freedom to manufacture, sell, and distribute products incorporating the patented technology within the licensed field.

Mutual NDA required before technical disclosure of full specification and claims.
